Sultan Hassan Mosque

Are you sick of hearing about mosques? Too bad. Cairo is nicknamed the City of a Thousand Minarets and I'm determined to see as many of them as I can. Onward...

I kinda fell in love with the Sultan Hassan Mosque. I might even list it as my favorite mosque so far. There are a couple of reasons for this.

1) We had just come from the very crowded, tourist packed Mohammed Ali mosque. Clark, Ike and I were the only people at Sultan Hassan. Booker went on a mosque strike and refused to leave the car, so he stayed behind with Mama De. It was sooooo nice to have the place all to ourselves.

2) It's an absolutely incredible hunk of architecture. It's HUGE. Now lots of the mosques we've been to have been large and sprawling, but this one just felt different. Enormous and imposing. It was ornate in all the right places.

Clark has suggested that I take more photos of people and less postcard/architecture photos. And he's right... but architecture doesn't bolt out of my frame as soon as I click. Or constantly grab it's crotch.

I loved the crotch grabbing picture. Hilarious! The joy of having boys I guess.
