The Citadel and the Mohammed Ali Mosque

Clark made it to Cairo! In just three flights he and his luggage made it from Tucson to Cairo. Isn't modern travel amazing (when volcanos aren't screwing things up that is)? Anyways, no time to waste- off to the Citadel we went.

The Citadel and really the Mohammed Ali Mosque have been popping up in the background of all my photos so I was pretty excited to finally make it out there. It was a little disappointing to show up and see several giant tour buses lined up in the parking lot. I'm much happier when I arrive at an empty mosque where my kids can run around without being scooped up by every curious Egyptian who manages to corner them.

But nonetheless we enjoyed our time at the Mohammed Ali Mosque.

Hedges with the name Allah carved into them? I love it.

It's also known as the alabaster mosque because there is so. much. alabaster.

So maybe I had to lie on my back in the middle of the mosque to get this shot? So what. At least I didn't look as foolish as the Japanese guy below who was posing for pictures outside.

The tomb of Mohammed Ali Pasha. It was mashrabiya-ed off, so there wasn't much access to it.

Mom, it looks like the camera isn't pointing at us. Are you sure we're centered?

Rowdy, rowdy, rowdy. It's nice finally having Clark with us. Now I can walk away and pretend they're not mine.

Poor Booker, he doesn't get nearly as much attention as Ike... Lucky Booker?

Mom didn't pass the modesty test and had to wear this stylish robe.

Boy am I glad to have Clark here. It's his turn to play pack mule for a little while.

Margaret,
I love these posts. Us readers get to 'virtually' travel along with you! By the way, I love the family pic above, you have got to use that on a Christmas card or something:)
