Splash and Dash

I'm experiencing a bout of anxiety and late night insomnia, which is typical for me as I gear up for a busy few weeks. July is kicking my butt right now. Off the top of my head, my to-do list involves...
- Surviving Girls Camp next week without a single Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper.
- Finding out who Booker's first grade teacher is and needlessly stressing about it.
- Processing and editing 900+ photos from my cousins wedding.
- Preparing and packing for our annual beach/camping trip to San Diego.
- Calling my sister. Skyping with my dad.
- Spending time feeling completely inadequate in my church calling.
- Taming Ike's fro- let it grow or let it go? Yes, I sometimes lose sleep thinking about these things.
- Exercising. What happened to that? Man, I've been lazy lately.
- Catching up on blogging...

Well, there's one thing I can cross off my to-do list. A bit of blog catch-up. And in case you're curious, this sudden need to update the blog was prompted when I watched this video of my niece's first time swimming. I was reminded of how much I enjoy keeping up with my friends and family through personal blogs. I watched all 2 minutes and 46 seconds of that video (twice even) because 1) I love that girl 2) I miss that girl and 3) Watching her chunky little thighs splashing around in the water made me feel close to her even though several hundred miles separate us. So even though it sometimes feels like just another item to cross off my to-do list, blogging is important to me.

Even blogging about super embarrassing things like placing second to last in a Splash and Dash I participated in a few weeks. I'm making a record of this for a couple of reasons. First, as a reminder to myself that I can do hard things. Running a 5K is pretty difficult for me. Running a 5K after swimming 32 laps in the pool seriously sucks. I also want to point out to my mother, who pushed me (perhaps a little too far) into competitive swimming from age 6 to 16 when I finally put my foot down and quit, that it only took 12 years for me to get back into the pool. And mom, it felt really good. Thanks for pushing me. And lastly, I want to thank Clark for reminding me that coming in second to last is better than not trying at all. (I also want to thank Clark for almost always being available to g-chat with me while he's a work, even when it involves more g-whining than g-chating.)

And I was proud of myself. Even if it was second to last place.

LOVE the post :) i love the gchat encouragement you got from Clark. hilarious, and true all at once. also, if you invite someone you know you can beat, then you will for sure not be in last...unless they take so long in pool that they don't even make it to the run (that would be me) ;)
